My vet perscribed him on Rimadyl, but no matter how much rest or help we give him he still can’t get up on his own. He appears to be in pain and discomfort and other than medication from the vet, I don’t reckon there is anything we can really do for him. I reckon we’ve pretty much accepted him for whats left, but all our friends and family say it may be time to place him down. I like this dog to death, but seeing and hearing him in such pain is getting harder for me and my family.

They have other pain medication out that can help him…there is a new one on the market these days…it’s like prevecoxx or sumthing like that, but its supposed to be really excellent for arthritis with small side effects. Question your dogs vet about it and if he could prescribe it for your dog.
if he walks up places get him a ramp or if he doesnt walk up u can get apersonal massue or massage therapist and get him to feel better
HOPE I GAVE U EXCELLENT INFO
There are these doggie strollers that they have for older dogs. You could get one of those and push him around like a baby
Hope I can help!
go to walmart and get him some MSM, it works wonders I give to my lab who is 17 and it really helps, plus it isn’t as expensive.
Go to your Vet, question about a product called Deramaxx. It’s one of the newest pain/anti-inflammatory meds out. But you have to weigh your odds, I know this dog is probably your heart and soul. But if his terrible days are starting to outnumber the excellent days, then it’s about time to start thinking of what’s best for him. Now, I’m not trying to tell you what to do, but this is one of the toughest things for an owner to choose. And most of the time we find that owners keep them going on for their own being. Not saying your selfish. **this can be a tough subject** But if he’s painful and sore lets say 5 days out of the week, then it’s about time to start thinking about other options. It may just be in his best to let him stop hurting. And usually they do pretty excellent on medications until they get to the point where they can’t get around on their own. Then it just doesn’t seem to get any better from there.
Really– place him down. You can always buy another.
I am so sorry. I know how much our dogs mean to us, and how hard it is to accept the end. No guarantee, but seriously, try a product called Cetyl-M. You can do a search on the internet
I wish you the best
You can question your vet about putting him on Derramax, or upping his dose of Rimadyl. You can also try getting some Glucosamine chews. You can get them as treats, like at Wal-mart, or you can get some chew tablets from your vet. Try to make his life a small simpler, like getting him ramps instead of stairs.
If you really like your dog, then as hard of a choice that it is, you might want to have him place down. If he is in a lot of pain, reckon what would be best for him.
Excellent luck with whatever you choose.
How ancient is he? As hard as it is to accept, maybe your friends are right. You have to question yourself an honest question. Am I keeping him alive for whats best for him or am I keeping him alive for myself. That being said, I have found that there is a product in the pet stores called renewal. It’s like glucosamine. It will help repair some of the hurt to the joints etc but sometimes there is nothing that can be done. I hope you can help him or do the right thing. Excellent Luck!
i reckon its time to consider what is best for your dog… AS your dog. if you could make your own rational choice to help alliviate your own suffering from severe arthritis — medication or other — what would you choose? what would you choose to help your family (in dealing with your arthritis).
i also want to point out that despite the insensitive answer to the first poster.. ‘you can just get another’ is about as pathetic of a reason for death as i’ve ever heard. i can’t believe thats the first post. disgusting human
thats the only thing incorrect with my dog.. he’s a boxer . has
arthritis terrible… takes him a few minutes to get up after laying
down…. sometimes I help him,…. I lift his hind legs…. thats
where he has it the most……and as long as i can pick his ***
up—-i willnot place him down…. he’s my family…. and you don’t
place your parents down just because they have arthritis…..
