Financially,we can only afford one of those new whirlpool bath tubs. How hard is it to remove the ancient tub myself? And how to you do it? Lots of answers please.

Rather than replace the bathtub you might want to look at a spa bath mat – much less expensive and convenient – see link
Certainly a painful, and multiply crippling set of disorders. I’m sorry to hear.
I want to knid of agree, at least to start, why not try something that goes into a tub, such as # 1 states, or even a whirlpool unit that rests on the bub, with the jets in the water.
Another thought and certainly might work better for her, is one of the newest fads advertised, the upright tub. I have no clue at all how efficient they are or have any info about the SEAL, but Johnny Carsons ancient Buddy advertised them at least 2 dozen times a night on TV.
It allows certainly for a person to sit, and many are sold with the Jets feature. I also have no clue as to price, but I have to believe any cost for the comfort of your wife, should be worth it.

Just some ancient guy.
hi i have both fibromylagia and arthritis myself and have found something better than hot soak in the tub is a tanning bed! sounds crazy i know but trust me it works FANTASTIC! i cannt afford my own so i go to the local tanning bed down the street for some reason the heat soothes my bones for hours sometimes days
Having a similiar disease with muscle and joint aches myself, I can suggest another solution than the fantastic ones above. You can get hand held massage devices that connect to the tub faucet that enable you to sit in the tub and use the massage settings on the joints or muscles that are hurting. And, on those days when she cannot hold the device herself, a loving, kind hubby can do it for his wife…(PS DIY doc is a fantastic resource for instructions on putting the shower massage device on the tub faucet). It is cheaper than replacing the tub, doesn’t have jets to keep clean of bacteria and has multiple settings at different water pressures and pulses.
The problem with replacing a soaking tub with a jetted one is that you need to be a carpenter, an electrician and a plumber. We found putting in a portable spa was less expensive than replacing the tub with a whirlpool one with our bathroom configuration. We did, find one company that could convert a regular tub to a jetted one, but hubby wasn’t real pleased with the warranty, so we went with the faucet with massager option mentioned above.
