My dog is quite ancient. (12y/o) She has arthritis in her back & back legs to the point that she is in so much pain she can’t go. The vet gave her a corto shot & chewible pills she seems to really like…but is she going to have to take those always and are there other things?

Yep. Sounds like your vet gave your dog Rimadyl. A very common arthritis pain med. If it’s Rimady you’ll be wanting the vet to keep an eye on your dog’s liver function.
Yes, there are other pain meds available if she can’t tolerate the Rimadyl.
Yes, she will probably be on the pain meds for the rest of her life. Delight in your friend while you can.
Our departed mutt Shovelhead was on Rimady the last few of his 16 years.
It depends on the stage of arthritis she is in what will work on her. As it gets worse, you will have to change meds. I reckon they are using K laser these days to treat arthritis, but finding a vet that does that could be tough. My dog was on arthritis meds for 8 years. You might look into tramadol as it is the simplest on the organs, or look into VOM treatments. VOM puts joints back where they should be with a few treatments. You also need to keep an eye on a dog this age, arthritis is usually the first sign of things going incorrect.
it would be a excellent question to question your vet of other options she is already established with vet care so a call will be free and the vet has lots of other options. gl.
hmmm…the best remedy is this one:
STEP1: go to the vet
STEP2: question for something to give your dog to treat arthritis
STEP3: Pay the vet
STEP 4: Give treatment t your dog
STEP5: repeat these words “ABRA CADABRA!”
Then it should be cool.
Then what do you mean are there other things? The vet gives that stuff out because it helps the arthritis.
My dog has had that kind of stuff and yes he has to take it always. You cant really cure it. There is other stuff you can do, but theres not really much point.
And sorry for not reading your thing! But it was a sort of silly question.
But jsut make sure it isnt overweight, doesnt do too much exercise and has a very comfortable bed. I reckon you can also get these special dog biscuits but i dont know ifthey really work.
