i had this surgery 2 months ago!
I'm 14. my recovery has been slow, but i am so glad i had it done. i had something called spondylolisthesis. i had to miss school for a month, and i am still currently going to school part-time. my surgeons where great, and i hope to play tennis in the spring if i am allowed to. i still have minor pain in my right leg, but my surgeon said that it should gradually go away with time. i am wearing a light-weight brace right now. it is suppose to come off in 3 weeks, and i cant wait!
enough of me, how is your recovery coming?
why did u have the surgery?
what is ur pain like now?
i have never talked to anyone who is going through anything similar as me.
do you have an email or address or IM??
i can tell u anything about it

Google it. I did that for my arthroscopic surgery. I bet you can find soemthing. Read about everything, and remember, breath deep, and try to medidate if you can before they take you into the OR. That will help you to be calmer.

Try not to be scared honey, you won't have surgery unless it is to make your life better. My daughter had a scoliosis op earlier this year and is doing fine and back at school. She says that the op was worse for me cos she was asleep! Each operation is different depending on your condition, so it would not be right to tell you too many details as it may not be the same for you. Your surgeon will tell you everything you need to know and be happy to answer any questions. In a basic scoliosis op though they will straighten your spine and insert a metal rod. You may or may not need to wear a brace after (my daughter didn't need one). Again though, each op and recovery is individual and the surgeon will tell you what to expect. The recovery will largely depend on you. Warn your loved ones that you will probably be very grumpy for a few days after surgery (this is common and you probably won't remember too much but it was a surprise to me!) My daughter was in hospital for 14 days but other patients are home within 5. You will probably need physiotherapy afterwards for a while to to help totally straighten you out. 4 to 8 weeks off of school and no contact sport for up to 6 months. Again though this is all individual and depends on surgery and you. Good luck and try not to worry too much. I did a lot of research before the op and quite a lot of it wasn't relevant to my daughter so, again, your surgeon will help you. At the end of the day my daughter is glad now that she has had the op and is happier, healthier and more confident in herself (hey and think of all the presents you get too!!). Hope this helps a little. Take care.
