Can you tell me the symtoms. How were you treated? My Dr. did diagnose me with Piriformis Syndrome. I have been going to the physical therapist for about 3 weeks now and it does not seem to be helping. When I come out of therapy it seems to hurt down my leg. I’m thinking about going to a chiropractor. Is this a wise go.Does anyone have any tips for getting this under control.

since you have been treating for 3 weeks and you are still having troubles i would recommend 1 of 2 things. 1) a second opinion-a Chiropractor certainly sees many people with nerve issues including the Piriformis syndrome and would be very capable of handling this for you. 2) return to your MD for a re-evaluation or talk with your PT and question him to re evaluate you because you are not getting any better. A piriformis syndrome typically does not last very long . the leg symptoms are worse when sitting better when lying down or standing. treatment is basically stretching exercises to the muscle- which should respond relatively quickly- withing in two weeks..
for sciatic pains, chiropractor is the best bet.
I developed a bulging disc between lumbar 4 and 5 by running too much on the jogging trail. I’ll tell you what I did. You’ll have to choose what is applicable in your case. My piriformis muscle caused some problems initially but the main issue for me was a bulging lumbar disk.
Here’s some useful websites for piriformis syndrome. The rest of the info is for sciatic condition due to the bulging disk which may be useful to you. You’ll have to choose.

1) My chiropractor recommended taking daily doses of 100 mg. of Vitamin B6. It strengthens nerve insulation. I noticed an improvement in 4 to 6 weeks.
2) Aleve is a excellent NSAID medication that is sold over the counter.
The doctor can prescribe a stronger form of the drug in the name Naproxen. The doctor can also prescribe Tramadol which is a narcotic and excellent pain reliever.
Back ice packs are a excellent thought also.Usually they can be placed around the waist area for the best relief.
(They connect with velcro) You can buy them at most pharmacies

3) The lunge exercise is excellent for sciatic conditions.
An example is at the bottom of this site:http://www.halhigdon.com/15Ktraining/Str…
4) I bought the Teeter inversion table. You can invert yourself partially
or completely for spine decompression. It feels fantastic.
It costs a few hundred but I like it.http://www.teeterhangups.com/home.html
5) I bought the Rebuilder 2407 Electronic Stimulator (information at the site below). This product was intended for a variety of ailments including nerve hurt due to diabetes but I found it helpful when the electrical attachments are placed slightly to the right and left of the spine where the bulging disk occurs. In my case,
just slightly lower than waist level to the right and left of the spine.
I paid $699 for this (although they’ve reduced the price since), so it’s something to consider even though it’s a small
expensive. I bought the more expensive model since it had the AC adapter associated with it rather than just the battery (and so it supplies more power). It certainly makes you feel excellent when you use it at 7.83 Hz.http://www.rebuildermedical.com/
